Motherhood is a stage in life that causes a complete metamorphosis in the mother’s life. A mother’s body changes to be able to safely and in a healthy way carry the unborn child. After birth, the mother’s body adapts itself to be able to feed the child until the child can be able to feed on its own.
A woman’s mind set also changes when she becomes a mother. When a lady turns into a mother, she has to start thinking differently. Her first priority stops being herself but instead her priority becomes the wellbeing of the child.
When the mother is pregnant, she has to think about taking the proper diet for her growing unborn child. She has to think about keeping the unborn child safe and she has to make sure that she herself is always in a healthy and sound environment since any injury or negative impact on her will also affect the child negatively.
The fact that the mother’s condition affects the child’s condition is often overlooked or taken for granted by many. Many people tend to only pay keen attention to the types of foods that the mother eats and forget other aspects of the mother’s wellness.
People fail to realize that things such as mental stress affecting the mother also affects the baby. A mother in a bad mood means a baby in a bad mood. As such, extra care should be taken to ensure that the mother’s condition is always maintained in the best condition.
In Singapore, we have many mothers, especially single mothers, who do not take very good care of their babies especially in relation to where they live. Singaporeans many times have challenges in finding the best places to live in but the expectant or the young mother should take extra measures to ensure that she is living in a proper environment.
Some single mothers who earn low incomes may not afford to rent a house and they may opt to live in rented master rooms or common rooms. Many times, these facilities are not ideal for properly raising a child in. These are constrained places that cannot provide enough room for the child to play around in or for the expectant mother to have free room to move around.
While living in such a room, the mother will not have the freedom to prepare any kind of food at any time of the day for the child.
In Singapore, some of the HDB rooms or houses that people live in are also in environments that are not conducive for the expectant mother or for the growing child. An expectant mother should for example not have to climb steep stairs. A child in such an environment may also fall down the stairs.
A crowded environment is also not good since such environments come with other negativities such as noise and other pollutions. A noisy environment will stress an expectant mother and a newborn child will also be stressed. A child in a noisy home will not be able to get enough sleep due to the frequent noise interruptions.
